Committee News – October 2006

AGM report

The committee has survived virtually intact following our AGM last month. Kate Lemon formally stood down as Chair and Rebecca Vaughan as Secretary, although both are remaining on committee. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their hard work over the last year. We would also like to welcome Nicola Tiedeman onto committee. Please see the notice in the porch for an up to date list of committee members. The next committee meeting is taking place on Monday 20th November.

We also voted to adopt the updated set of policies. It is perhaps worth reminding parents that the contract you sign when your child starts at Pre-School states that you accept the group will be run in accordance with them. If you would like to have a look at the new policies, there is always a copy of them kept in Pre-School, and we will shortly be adding them to the website (www.wasps.smartemail.co.uk).

Staffing

As some of you will be aware, Pre-School had to close for a day last term because of the lack of qualified staff, due to illness. We are fortunate at the moment that, as a last resort, we can close Pre-School, as with morning-only sessions parent/carers are around during the daytime. However, as we look to the future in the new building, when we hope to be offering full wrap-around care, having to close is something we cannot afford to do if we are to be looked upon as a reliable provider of childcare. We are therefore very keen to increase the number of bank staff we have. If you know anyone who would be willing to be added to our list of bank staff, particularly if they are at least NVQ3-qualified, please speak to Kate Croudace. Alternatively, if anyone is interested in being employed by Pre-School to work towards this qualification, there may be opportunity to do this from next September. Again, please speak to Kate if you are interested.

Uniform

We are using the opportunity presented by moving into the new building to introduce school colours. A decision regarding this will be made at the next committee meeting. If you have a view on the subject that you wish to be taken into consideration, then please speak to Kate Croudace before then.

Social Events

The committee will be “at home” in the Cricketers on Friday 10th November at 8pm, if you would like to escape the family and join us for a drink.

We are also organising a Xmas Dinner, most likely in a local pub, for parents and staff on Friday 1st December, especially for those of us who do not have the opportunity to go out for a Xmas Dinner through work.

Fundraising

Our next fundraising event will be a Children’s Xmas Party on Saturday 16th December. It will be at St Laurence Hall (Pre-School), from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Tickets cost £3 and are available from Pre-School. It is for all children up to and including Year 6 and we will be having refreshments, party games, tattoos and a disco. We would really appreciate your support, and if anyone is willing to run the disco, or knows someone who might, then please speak to a committee member.

Finally, there are still some tea towels left if you need some stocking fillers for Xmas! These stunning limited edition cloths are made from 100% cotton and feature designs from up-and-coming local artists. Available at the bargain price of £4 each or 3 for £10. “My crockery has never been drier” – A satisfied customer.

Have a good term.
