Committee News – May 2007
New Building
As
a lot of you will have seen the new building is almost inhabitable. The last few
months have been very busy and we would like to thank everyone who has given
their time, volunteered family members or strong-armed friends into helping us.
As is typical with building projects it’s the (seemingly endless) small details
at the end that are taking the time and I am sure that both Nikki and Synetta
would appreciate as much support as you can give them in the last few weeks of
term. We have an important date coming up on the 9th May when an
OFSTED inspector is coming out to have a look at the building and decide if
Nikki is a suitable person to run it! Assuming the inspection does not throw up
any insurmountable problems we are still on course to move Pre-School there for
the start of Term 6.
Life in the new building
We
shall be changing to our new times for sessions for Term 6. Morning sessions
will run from 9:00-11:30 and lunch club from 11:30-12:30. Prices will remain at
their current levels before rising to £2.50/hour in September. When dropping
off or collecting children during (St Laurence) school hours of 8:50-15:00,
please follow the yellow brick road to avoid disturbing children in Class 1.
To
protect our lovely new floors we shall be asking parents to provide a pair of
indoor shoes for their child. These could be any type of shoe: slippers,
plimsolls, trainers, ‘proper’ shoes as long as they are kept for indoor use and
are not likely to cause accidents. For example, slip-on shoes (with no backs)
or novelty slippers are not suitable. Please speak to Nikki if you need any
guidance.
Open Day
To
be viable as a Pre-School we need to start getting in more children especially
in the afternoons. We are holding an Open Day on Saturday 23rd June
from 2pm-4pm in the new building to allow locals and prospective parents to
have a look around. We shall be organising lots of fun activities including a
bouncy castle. There will also be a professional photographer there to take
portraits: families; kids; groups; you & your favourite member of staff! If
you are around that weekend we would appreciate any help you could provide, for
example, to run stalls or bake cakes. Please could you fill in the slip at the
bottom of the page and return it to Pre-School.
Staff
Finally,
as many of you are aware, Nikki is standing down as Supervisor at the end of
this school year, although she will continue to lead some sessions each week.
She has worked tirelessly over the last four years: planning, fund-raising,
filling in reams of forms, organising builders, sitting through hours of
meetings, as well as doing her bit to keep up the population of Pre-School age
children. Without all her hard work we would have no new building. Well done
Nikki and thank you.
The
position of Supervisor is currently being advertised. We are planning to
interview in the next few weeks and have someone in place by half-term, to
start in September.
