Committee News – September 2007

Welcome

Welcome back to the new term. Hopefully, you will have all had a chance to introduce yourself to our new Manager, Carol Stratford. Carol is a qualified Foundation Stage teacher who lives in the village. She will be working in Pre-School three days a week. Nikki and Michelle will continue to lead sessions when Carol is not present. Carol has taken over the admissions from Nikki. If you need to speak to her she can be contacted outside her working hours on 858951.

We also have several new children too. Welcome to Grace Tiedeman, Sophie Sutherland, Harvey Nichol, Eddie Cooke, Ruby Powell, Poppy Whitbread and Faris Whitbread. We hope you enjoy your time with us.

It’s great to be able to report that Pre-School numbers are continuing to rise. We’re particularly busy for the first three weeks of term as we have several of the youngest children from Class 1 who have yet to start school full time. For those new to Pre-School, it gives a nice opportunity to get to know them before they start coming over for sessions under our Partnership Foundation Stage Unit arrangements.

With several more two year olds due to start later in the term, we are currently interviewing for a new Pre-School assistant, so that we have sufficient staff to employ three members of staff each morning (for a maximum of sixteen children). So, we should have yet another new face with us in about a fortnight.

School dinners

If anyone whose child attends lunch club would like to take advantage of the school dinner service at St Laurence’s, as opposed to bringing in a packed lunch, please speak to Carol. It should be possible to arrange for a meal to be brought over to Pre-School with the exception of Wednesdays (when the School have a late lunch).  The cost of a school dinner is £1.90.

Uniform

We invested in a small stock of uniform, in size 24”, when we placed the order at the end of last term, so if you need some more (I gather some children may be wanting to sleep in it) please catch Kate Croudace (Chair). If you need smaller or larger sizes please let Kate know, as we will be placing another order at some point this term. For anyone interested, it is possible to order child-sized jackets similar to those worn by the staff.

AGM

Our AGM is taking place on Monday 15th October at 8pm at Pre-School. Wine and nibbles will be served as an incentive to come. It’s definitely an urban myth that anyone who turns up gets roped onto committee. And the more of you that come, the less likely it is to happen…..

If anyone is interested in joining the committee, to share the responsibility of overall management of the Pre-School, then please feel free to grab any committee member to find out more about what the role entails.

Boris

A quick reminder that Boris Johnson is performing the “official” (and probably the last) opening of the Pre-School on the afternoon of Friday 14th September. If you would like to come then please try to arrive for 2.30pm. If you have Pre-School children with you, could we please ask you to dress them in their uniforms. It would be lovely to try to get a picture of as many of them together as possible.
