Dear Parent/Carer 3
December 2007
The children’s interests and
ideas have taken over this term’s planning, which has made pre-school an
extremely interesting and exciting place to be! At the beginning of the term
two carpet rolls dominated the children’s play and it was lovely to see our
youngest two year olds experimenting and playing along side the year one
children from school. We extended the children’s play by purchasing two pieces
of guttering. I think every conceivable resource has now been rolled down the
guttering (you may have seen the photographs in the entrance hall of Reverend
Nigel trying to get a spider down it using a bucket of water!).
Interests changed a week ago
after a group of children spotted an owl flying over Pre-school. This has
inspired:
- Bird feeders
- Bird tables
- Binoculars being used
- Binoculars being made
- Lots of bird spotting!
- Reference books being borrowed from the library
- The home corner being transformed into a vets
- And a rescue centre is under construction in the
role-play area outside, hopefully with its own ambulance.
I am sure the next few weeks will
bring even more excitement, especially as we have now begun to practice ‘Wiggly
Nativity’. The nativity will be shown during sharing assembly in school on
Friday 14th December at 2.30pm. For parents who are unable to make
this performance, they are welcome to join the school on Thursday 13th
December at 9.30am for the dress rehearsal.
The pre-school Christmas party
will be held on Thursday 20th December. If you would like your child
to attend, please complete and return the form below. All pre-school children
are welcome, however if your child does not normally attend on a Thursday, an
additional session charge will be added to your child’s invoice in January.
Please arrive as normal at 9.00am in ‘party wear’. Father Christmas will be
once again making an appearance at 11.00am. Pre-school will supply
presents. If you would like to join us
and take photos of your child with Santa, please arrive promptly, as I am sure
you are aware he is very busy and runs to a tight schedule.
With the beginning of winter we have already had a few of
the children and staff away from pre-school because of bugs, coughs and colds.
Unfortunately through spending a lot of time around other children, it is
inevitable that at some point your child will come home with a bug. You
probably know instinctively if your child is well enough for pre-school,
however it is pre-schools policy that children who have had diarrhoea or
vomiting are kept at home for 24 hours after it has stopped. Making sure that
we all stick to this policy makes an enormous difference to the health and
wellbeing of all the staff, children and particularly to one family where
everyday coughs and colds can lead on quickly to far more serious conditions.
As the weather has begun to get
colder it is also important that your child is dressed appropriately. Children
are welcome to leave named wellies, hats, gloves and extra clothes at
pre-school.
Please can I also remind all
parents and carers that they should park on the road and under no circumstances should they
drive into the school car park. This is for the safety of the children in
pre-school and school.
It is very important that the
children come to pre-school with a named bottle of water each day. If you do
forget, please inform a member of staff, who will be happy to supply one for
them.
When dropping off your child do
not feel you have to rush off. Please stay and play if you wish.
And lastly a big thank you to
those parents who have already carried out a parent helper session or have put
their names down to do one before the end of term. We really do appreciate your
help.
Louise
